General

The actual processing time can vary significantly depending on what services we are providing, but we offer a standard turnaround time of 5 working days on the majority of orders delivered to us.
As part of the ongoing impact of Covid-19, we are no longer offering a delivery and collection service as standard. However, we still have the capability of liaising with couriers and haulage companies to ensure your parts get to us and back safely.
Of course we can, simply get in touch by filling in an enquiry form and a member of our expert team will be happy to provide no-obligation help and advice.

Powder Coating

Powder coating offers a number of benefits over wet paint in that it is more durable, cheaper, and more eco-friendly than a wet paint finish. However, there are other factors that can make wet paint more suitable for your specific use case, such as ease of maintenance. A more in-depth comparison can be found here.
Powder coating is applied by electrostatically charging the powder as it flows through the powder gun, allowing it to stick to the parts in an even coat, using the static charge for adhesion. Parts are then cured in an oven, melting the powder to form one uniform and protective layer over the part.
In an ideal environment, a powder coating finish can last up to 20 years. However, this lifespan can be affected by a number of factors such as the environment the part is placed in and dependent on maintenance and repairs as and when they are required.

E-Coating

The only factor that limits the size of a part is the size of the submersion tank in the facility, with some factories specialising in E-coating large parts such as car frames. At Pym & Wildsmith, the capacity for our E-coating service is 1.7m x 1.3m x 0.8m.
E-coating is ideal for providing low-cost corrosion protection and can be used outdoors as long as it is not exposed to UV light. However, if the finished part is going to spend prolonged periods in direct sunlight or similar, we recommend combining it with a further process such as powder coating or wet paint so that it can provide lasting protection for your project.
E-coat is a hard-wearing finish and is typically rated to 1000 hours salt spray resistance. However, in real terms the lifespan is highly dependent on the conditions the parts are kept in, with the potential of several years’ worth of protection in the right environment.
